In cooler temperatures and wet weather, thicker and well insulated socks are recommended. In dry and warm climates, lightweight socks with moisture wicking technologies are the better choice.
Different activities call for different types of socks. You would not want to wear the same sock for running in hot weather as you would for hiking in snow. Sometimes the thickness of a sock can determine if it is the right choice:
