I have been a New Balance fan since my first pair in the mid-80s; some kind of sneaker that is no longer made and if it was would certainly be \"retro\". They were virtually indestructable. I typically will try on other shoes to provide myself a comparisson, but seem to always come away with NB. They have the comfort, fit and craftsmanship that I like.
Let me tell you what this shoe is not: it is not a running shoe. If you\'re going to run and log over 10-12 miles a week, get a serious running shoe - NB makes several great ones.
Having said that, let me tell you what this show is: it is one of the most comfortable, lightweight and stable cross-trainer or gym shoes that I have ever worn. My primary activity lifting - expolsive lifts (cleans, jerks, snatches), other stability oriented lifts (squats, deadlifts, etc.) and of course an assortment of typical weightlifting exercises. This shoe is superb for lifting in the gym, especially given its light weight.
I typically run 3-4 days a week, 2 1/2 - 3 miles a pop. The shoes are fine for that - the 8-10 mile a week range; but as I said before, any more than that, get a real running shoe. They\'re also great for walking; I use them when walking my dog - very light and comfortable.
This is the first gym shoes that I ever ordered online. I couldn\'t find them in a store to try on, so in my mind, it was a gamble - but I won big. I tried on Nike, Under Armor and Adidas cross-trainers (several costing in excess of the MX 840) and just didn\'t get the same fit and comfort from them.
I\'ll probably get a back up pair or two in 6 months or so - they\'re that good.
