These shoes have been comfortable and look good enough for me to try to get away with wearing them on dressy occasions. They have been notably durable as travel shoes, with two exceptions: the short life of the shoelaces and holes worn in the inside fabric of each heel. Both of these minor problems occur with all my New Balance shoes but not with my other brands. The pluses outweight the minuses, and I just ordered another pair.

The overall shoe experience has been excellent. I've used NB for running in previous years and found them to be a great, comfortable shoe. For walking and overall use, I bought the 749 from my local sporting goods store and found the size I needed was one size larger than any other shoe I've worn for my 65+ years(NB11-others 9.5/10). The D width was correct. The one minor problem was the shoelaces which wore the outer cloth cover through in less than 6 months. Otherwise, a great looking and wearing shoe I use daily for walking or just casual wear. The brown color allows them to be stylish yet supportive.
