I did not purchase these boots/shoes for running although I do have several pairs of NB for running. I got them to do a cross-country trip in the Sierra last summer following the Sierra High Route from Red's Meadow to Tuolomne Meadows. They are slightly narrower than the 4E I usually expect but I had no foot problems on a moderately difficult backpack, including a couple of days of quite a bit of rain. I have only worn them a few times since last summer because I try to wear lighter shoes on any trail hike - I'm a half-way follower of Ray Jardine on that count. I have suggested to my daughter that she consider these if she insists on boots for a backpack this summer although I'd prefer for a trail that she wear running shoes. This will show a zero out of five for "style." I see no reason to provide style points, for or against on utilitarian objects. Oooopps. I guess I am forced to pick some number of stars for style so I just picked the middle, 3. Style - in hiking boots? Are you kidding me?

I used the 1201\'s during my thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2008. I suffered horribly for the first 800-900 miles trying to find the proper fit for my feet before I happened upon these. They saved my hike. The first day I used them I knew I had found my footwear. I used a size 11 2E. I\'m thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail starting in the spring of 2010 and you can bet these will what I\'ll be wearing the entire hike. They are durable, comfortable and supportive.
