New Balance 926

I still own two sets of 926 and now one 927. When new they were all very comfortable, but they all suffer from their heels being too soft. I quickly wear down the outer corner of the heels which then causes aches and pains. I have tried placing a hard rubber patch in these worn corners which helps. A big problem with the 927 (not the 926) is that the topmost lace eyelets are not reinforced resulting in the ND supplied laces quickly cutting through the edge of the top eyelets. Repair shops say they cannot fix this damage. I did find some metal grommets which I will epoxy glue into place but I do not expect to have to do this with such an expensive walking shoe. The top eyelets on the 926 did not have this problem. Also the laces supplied with both the 926 and 927 are about 4 inches too long so requiring double knots to shorten them.

These are absolutely the most comfortable and comfortably supportive walking shoe I have ever had, and I've had several diferent New Balance models. They remind me of my first experience with New Balance, which was a revelation. Notably, these are made on the SL-2 last, which gives them both a close fit in the heel and a wider, taller toebox that suits me very well--I only wish I had discovered the comfort of this fit earlier, since the SL-1 can be a little tight on my toes. These are a fully enclosed suede shoe, which I intentionally bought to wear in the Fall and Winter. My guess is that they will be too warm to wear all day in the summer, but I don't see this as a drawback since I know that I will then have another pair of more seasonable SL-2 lasted New Balance walking shoes to complement these. PS: While my comments relate to the 926, I'm sure they would also apply to the successor 927.
